The Breed

The Russian Toy breed comes from Russia, where it was created from the English Toy Terrier. Two Russian Toy varieties exist: the smooth-haired one, the oldest, and the longhaired, born in 1958. At the beginning the smooth-haired variety was known as Russian Toy Terrier and the longhaired as Moscow Long Haired Toy Terrier. In 1988 the two varieties have been joined under the name Russian Toy Terrier and in 2006 the name has been changed in Russian Toy at the same time of the entering of the breed among those officially recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.

More information about the Russian Toy can be found on the ENCI (Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana) website and on the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) one.
